Wanting to travel, Americans turn to RVs, but battery issues can put a drain on the experience

CTEK's D250SE and SMARTPASS 120S onboard charging system

Americans are increasingly turning to RVs to satisfy their wanderlust. Keeping your RV batteries charged is vital. CTEK’s onboard charging system can ensure you have the power and reliability you need.

CHICAGO, IL, UNITED STATES, March 8, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Tired of being cooped up during the COVID-19 pandemic, Americans are increasingly turning to RVs to satisfy their wanderlust. And unlike in previous years, when the RV “season” predominantly occurred between Memorial Day and Labor Day, remote learning and work from home opportunities mean Americans now can travel year-round.

The popularity of RVing has been on the rise for several years, but the 2020 pandemic accelerated the trend. Dealerships across the country have seen an influx of first-time buyers and coupled with limited supplies and backorders some dealerships have struggled to keep up with demand.

“RVs offer a way for people to travel and see the country while socially distancing, yet the increase in year-round use means the demand on RV batteries has risen. Keeping those batteries charged has never been more important,” said Bobbie DuMelle, Executive Vice President for CTEK North America.

CTEK is a global leader in the care and maintenance of vehicle batteries, and CTEK’s smarter chargers make battery charging easy, reliable, and safe.

RVs typically have two main types of batteries – starter and service.

A starter battery (sometimes called a chassis battery) is used to start an RV’s engine. The high-power density of a starter battery means it’s able to release large amounts of power quickly.

In contrast, an RV’s service batteries (also known as deep-cycle or house batteries) provide a steady amount of current over a long period of time to power everything from kitchen appliances and televisions to lights and smoke detectors.

Sulfation is the most common cause of battery failure for both starter and service batteries. Sulfation occurs when a battery is deprived of a full charge causing sulfate materials to crystalize on the discharged portions of the battery plates.

Temperature extremes also shorten battery life. If you’re camping in snowy mountains or dry deserts, your RV battery is under stress. CTEK chargers have a unique, patented eight-step approach to battery care, which includes breaking up sulfation and charging the battery. “Connect and Forget” simplicity means a charger can remain connected to the battery and the float/pulse maintenance stage will provide optimal battery care during periods of inactivity without damaging the battery.

An RV is especially susceptible to battery failure when it sits in storage. Just because an RV is in storage doesn’t mean there isn’t wattage being consumed. Known as a “parasitic load” items like radios and refrigerators can consume tiny milliamps over time, which drains the battery.

“RV owners want to relax, travel and escape the stresses of everyday life, but a dead battery can quickly drain the fun out of an RV adventure,” said DuMelle. “Regularly charging with a CTEK charger can extend the battery’s lifespan up to 3 times.

CTEK’s onboard charging system, featuring the D250SE and SMARTPASS 120S, are designed to give RV owners the power and reliability they need, when they need it. CTEK’s D250SE is a fully automatic, five-step charger, and the SMARTPASS 120S is a 120 amp fully automatic power management solution.

Together the D250SE and SMARTPASS 120S delivers a 140A charge that prioritizes power from the alternator to charge the service battery. The SMARTPASS 120S automatically separates between the starter and service batteries and distributes power between them without the need for traditional diodes or voltage-sensitive relays.

KORTRAX®: Safer Packaging Alternative to Fluorinated HDPE Containers

BP Polymers

Microphotograph of iodine stained Kortrax in a Plastic Bottle

EPA confirms that Fluorinated HDPE containers have unsafe high levels of PFAS compounds.
Kortrax HDPE Baritainers are PFAS, PFOS Free.

IRVINE, CA, US, March 8, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — On 3.5.21 the EPA issued a Public Announcement regarding, “Testing Data Showing PFAS Contamination from Fluorinated Containers.” In its Announcement the EPA, “is encouraging the pesticide industry to explore alternative packaging options, like steel drums or non-fluorinated HDPE.”

In its 3.5.21 Public Announcement, the EPA stated that in January 2021 it continued testing on fluorinated HDPE containers and determined that PFAS compounds were most likely formed from a chemical reaction during the container fluorination process which then leached into the product. Specifically, the EPA confirmed that “that it has detected eight different PFAS (sic) from the fluorinated HDPE containers, with levels ranging from 20-50 parts per billion.”
EPA is aware that many companies are using fluorinated HDPE containers to store and distribute pesticide and other products. EPA is actively working with the Food and Drug Administration, the U.S. Department of Agriculture, and industry and trade organizations to raise awareness of this emerging issue and discuss expectations of product stewardship. Moreover, the EPA has issued a subpoena under TSCA authority to the company that fluorinates HDPE containers to learn more about the fluorination process.

The EPA is also “testing different brands of fluorinated containers to determine whether they contain and/or leach PFAS, and if so, learn the conditions affecting leaching.”

Kortrax® is an engineered polyamide barrier resin that when blended with HDPE is used in the manufacturing of plastic containers (aka Baritainers®) with barrier properties that HDPE alone cannot provide. Kortrax® imparts the chemical resistance associated with a fluoropolymer treatment of HDPE containers and adds the benefit of oxygen, carbon dioxide and water vapor permeation inhibition as well. (https://baritainer.com/)

Fluorine or fluorine compounds are not utilized when Kortrax® is included within HDPE containers, and recent analysis has not identified any PFAS, PFOS compounds in containers or filling goods stored in Kortrax®/HDPE constructed packages. None of the ingredients of Kortrax® have been identified as being on the list of OECD PFAS, PFOS precursors. And Kortrax® is FDA and EU compliant with recycle code 2. (https://baritainer.com/technology/)

The usage of Baritainers® constructed from Kortrax® and HDPE offer a human safe and an environmentally recyclable alternative to fluorinated containers for food, consumer, and industrial applications. BP Polymers continues to monitor the PFAS, PFOS situation and will offer safe, alternative solutions for packaging foods, fragrances, cosmetics, health and beauty, pharmaceuticals, pesticides, solvents, and other critical chemicals.

Convenience is King for Your Dealer Auto Service Department

Convenience is King for Dealer Auto Service

Convenience is King for Dealer Auto Service

Convenience is King, and as long as it's paired with a fair price, it wins every time for dealer auto service. So why do dealers still struggle to achieve it?

LONG BEACH, CA, UNITED STATES, March 8, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Convenience, Convenience, Convenience… you’ve probably heard it your entire automotive service career. “Convenience is King”, and as long as it is paired with a fair price, it wins every time for your dealer auto service department. So why do dealers still struggle to achieve it? There are costs involved, and that initial cash outlay to improve convenience can be scary. Attaining convenience for every consumer is also a moving target.

Convenience is constantly evolving. There was a time when convenience meant an oil change appointment took one hour, and that waiting in an area with adequate seating and a free cup of coffee was the baseline for successfully attaining convenience. To a very limited few, this may still be true… I’d like to meet them!

Convenience is something every dealer auto service department needs to keep under constant surveillance. This is because it can mean something different to each customer, or each customer segment. One of the biggest mistakes dealers make is cutting costs, or forgoing investments in convenience that negatively impact performance. Here is an example:

Taking Tech videos requires data licenses, smartphones or tablets, internet connection improvements, and solutions to enable sending the video to customers. The costs add up, so we hear rationale like this: “My staff is not comfortable talking to customers through videos… we are going to save money and not do it.”

The convenience these tech videos can bring to consumers is a reliable easy to understand recommendation channel. The trust perception they deliver is proven to increase acceptance rates. So the video costs each month can be paid for by just one marginal RO that a video solution transforms into a highly profitable job.

In this case, the dealer is saving themself – out of business – by limiting their ability to provide true convenience. They are missing out on the repeat business from customers who like this feature, and they are missing out on the additional RO revenue they generate that far outweighs the costs. But this is just one example of cutting a convenience to save money. Rest assured, this is not just about video.

Scheduling and Communications

Think about scheduling tools that allow customers to connect with your dealer auto service department through voice, text, and email. You can have two-way conversations, through one connection point, with prospective service customers. The customers have the convenience of channel choice and the convenience of using one number to always reach their service contact at your dealership. You have the convenience of one tool that handles all of this for you.

Auto Service Payments

Customers don’t want to wait in line, they don’t want to wait to hear how much this is all going to cost, and today (remember moving target) they don’t want to touch anything at your dealership in the payment process. So why not offer the ability to pay online, on a phone, direct to the service advisor, or in advance. Does your dealership still hand a pen to customers as part of the checkout process? At least try to deliver the convenience of not having to wait in line at the cashier.

Customer Transportation Options

This is where keeping an eye on changes in what convenience means can really pay off. You can have an Uber waiting for the customer as soon as they complete their drop-off process. You can have an Uber at the customer’s door when it is time to pick up their vehicle. You and the customer can track the status of the Uber to know when it will arrive. Is that convenient? Add options for shuttle and loaners deepening on the value of the customer and your business volumes.

Better yet, offer to service the customer’s vehicle at the location of their choice. This does require an initial investment in tools and trucks, and we hear that this is one of the biggest obstacles. But we also hear that once the investment is made, it is paying for itself after only a few services each month. Tools to help manage and track remote service add to the efficiency. They also help you optimize the business at your service bays. Know when mobile service is possible so that you can keep bays open for big-ticket services that have to be completed on-site.

Convenience is King

Achieving optimal convenience is an ongoing effort, but when accomplished well, businesses like Amazon leapfrog other industries to capture large market share and quickly obsolete many competitors. Don’t let this happen to your dealership auto service department. What if you could combine video with a shopping cart-like experience so customers can see the recommended repair, accept it, and pay for it from their phone? It’s possible NOW.

Do you still want to cut investment costs? What if you could get everything we talked about in one tool? This will enable you to cut the costs of investing in other tools only performing a singular benefit. Consider investing in platforms that encompass many aspects of convenience to optimize your investment and keep convenience going strong at your dealership service department.

Increasing demand for oil and gas contributed to the growth of the integrated geophysical services market. According to the International Energy Agency, in 2018, consumption of Gas/diesel was 12,97,065 Kt globally. According to the US Energy Information Administration estimates, global consumption of petroleum and liquid fuel averaged 94.3 million barrels per day in 2019, and it is expected to increase by 6.5 million barrels per day in 2021. The increasing consumption of oil and gas is driving the demand for integrated geophysical services. This is because integration between different oil and gas exploration methods as archaeological surveys and remote sensing from aerial platforms and satellite obtain required geological information and evaluate core samples or cuttings. The sub-surface analysis is important for accurate reservoir and flow modelling leading to more informed production decisions and the ability to produce more energy. The increasing demand for oil and gas is therefore driving the integrated geophysical services market.

The global integrated geophysical services market size is expected to grow from $1.35 billion in 2020 to $1.46 billion in 2021 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.1%. Indigo Tech to Deliver Grid Sustainable Robotic Wheel EVs for The Digital-First Economy

Will Graylin – CEO of Indigo Technologies

Indigo’s patented robotic wheels enable breakthrough ultra-efficient electric vehicles with superior ride comfort and handling

WOBURN, MASSACHUSETTS, USA, March 8, 2021 /EINPresswire.com/ — Indigo Technologies, the MIT-born electric mobility company and OEM that invented the robotic wheel with electric suspension and propulsion integrated into each wheel, will deliver ultra-efficient light EVs with superior ride comfort and handling previously not achievable with conventional motor and suspension systems. Indigo’s first EVs will hit the roads in late 2022 and are designed for the millions of drivers delivering packages, food and people for the fast growing digital-first economy. These drivers and transportation network companies desperately need to reduce their cost per mile of service and will benefit from the accessibility to sustainable mobility. Indigo EVs will be rented, leased and insured in select cities through a strategic partnership with OV Loop, a FinTech InsurTech innovator.

The best way to reduce cost-per-mile and CO2-per-mile performance is to improve the car mass-to-payload ratio and make ultra-efficient EVs desirable and accessible through attractive product design and procurement options. The average American EV in 2020 costs $55K and weighs 4,000 pounds – a terrible ratio, where 95% of the electricity used for most trips is to transport the car’s own mass. Today’s grid capacity is already limited as seen in Texas recently, and the majority of electricity is still produced by burning coal and natural gas that emit CO2. Heavy EVs waste electricity leading to increased CO2 emissions, and require larger and more expensive batteries that take longer to charge. Today’s light EVs do not provide the comfort, handling and utility that people want. Responding to these problems, Indigo’s breakthrough robotic wheels enable a smooth ride and safe handling for light EVs at practically no additional cost, with more usable space for a new class of ultra-efficient and affordable EVs that radically reduce energy waste and cost per mile.

Indigo’s first EV will weigh less than 1,500 pounds, using a battery pack 3-times smaller and 3-times faster to charge on standard Level 2 chargers, and go 80 mph with a range of 230 miles and a 230-mpg equivalent. The purpose-built EVs will come in two variants initially, a 4-wheel microvan and a 3-wheel delivery pod. These are designed for ride hail, delivery and essential services with a center driver seat, plenty of cargo space, and two sliding doors to provide safe and easy ingress and egress from either side. Indigo's target base price is under $20,000 in addition to its rental/leasing program through a partnership with OV Loop at a cost lower than owning and operating combustion engine vehicles.

“To truly become sustainable – environmentally and economically – we must scale the adoption of ultra-efficient EVs with Energy Star ratings like electrical appliances,” said Will Graylin, Indigo CEO. “Indigo’s breakthroughs finally enable comfortable EVs that are radically more efficient and affordable for the tens of millions of drivers serving our digital-first economy.” Graylin became CEO of Indigo in early 2020 to set the company’s new direction, adding top notch leaders to its existing team of engineers and scientists from MIT.

About Indigo Technologies, Inc.
Indigo is delivering radically more efficient, comfortable and affordable EVs, purpose built for ride hail, delivery, and essential services, leveraging its patented robotic wheel technology. Beyond breakthrough EV technology, Indigo is also combining innovative FinTech and InsurTech from its partner OV Loop to make affordable transportation more accessible to everyone.

Rising usage of helicopters in emergency medical services (EMS), search and rescue (SAR), and firefighting operations are expected to drive the growth of the commercial helicopter market. Air EMS creates a significant part of the medical transport system that assists in shuttling patients, equipment, supplies, and medical personnel throughout the medical network for time-critical emergency transport as well as long-distance scheduled transfers. According to MIT International Center for Air Transportation (ICAT), in 2018, air ambulances transport approximately 400,000 patients by rotary-wing and 150,000 by fixed-wing aircraft each year in the USA, compared to 36 million transports by ground. Thus, the ever-increasing helicopters in EMS is one of the key drivers for the growth of the commercial helicopters market.

The helicopters market segments by type are light-weight commercial helicopter, medium-weight commercial helicopter, heavy-weight commercial helicopter, by number of engines are single-engine, multi-engine, and by application are oil and gas, transport, medical services, law enforcement and public safety, others.

The global commercial helicopters market size is expected to grow from $24.74 billion in 2020 to $26.94 billion in 2021 at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 8.9%. The growth is mainly due to the companies rearranging their operations and recovering from the COVID-19 impact, which had earlier led to restrictive containment measures involving social distancing, remote working, and the closure of commercial activities that resulted in operational challenges. The market is expected to reach $31.94 billion in 2025 at a CAGR of 4.3%.

The major players covered in TBRC’s helicopter industry report are Airbus Helicopter, Bell Helicopter, Leonardo, Lockheed Martin Corporation, Russian Helicopters, MD Helicopters Inc., Robinson Helicopter Company, Kaman Corporation, Boeing, Korea Aerospace Industries Ltd, Sikorsky Aircraft Corporation, Textron Inc., Enstrom Helicopter Corp., Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd.
