Volkswagen Sales Dip 4 Percent in Q1 of 2026
Marco Schubert, the group's sales chief, pointed to a difficult operating environment as the primary driver behind the figures. "Highly challenging economic and geopolitical conditions shaped the first quarter of the year," he said, adding that "the worldwide automotive market experienced a general decline through the end of March."
Despite the headwinds, Schubert noted the automaker held its ground competitively, saying the company "largely maintained its global market share despite the overall downturn."
Regional performance offered some relief. Sales climbed 8% across Central and Eastern Europe, 7% in South America, and 4% in Western Europe — gains that helped cushion the blow from steeper losses elsewhere.
